If you’re going to do it anyway, you might as well do it for a good cause.

Granted it brings out the narcissist in all of us, but there’s nowt wrong with a bit of self-love. If anything (judging by the amount of slap on some of you ladies), more of that wouldn’t be amiss. Trust me, you don’t need as much makeup as you think, so stop hiding behind it.

The campaign probably wouldn’t have gained this much momentum if so many women didn’t find exposing their bare faces such a daunting prospect, and I don’t doubt it is a big deal for those who have summoned up courage they could previously find only in a bottle of foundation or packet of false eyelashes.

Since I do not wear cosmetics on a day-to-day basis, this #nomakeupselfie thing isn’t much of a challenge. Nothing against cosmetics. Love the stuff…just can’t be bothered faffing about with it most of the time (especially in the morning). I am a massive camwhore, and a large number of my selfies are #nomakeup and #nofilter so there’s small chance of me getting nominated because of this, but what the hell….Here, have it…have my pic anyway.

We could of course ignore the fuss and simply send our money straight to charity, but the point is to generate more hype and get more people involved. Besides, there’s no harm in fishing for compliments having some fun along the way…And it appears that every little does help since donations skyrocketed after everyone started plugging their gloriously unadorned mugs on Facebook and Twitter.

If you wish to support this, please donate generously to Cancer Research UK. Alternatively, you can direct your largesse that way (£3 to be precise) by texting CURE to 70660 or BEAT to 70099. Oh, and fret not if you end up adopting a polar bear or two by accident…It’s still charity!

Whilst this seems to be a predominantly UK movement, cancer is a worldwide concern, so why don’t we take it global?

Here’s the link to the World Cancer Research Fund. Go go go!!!
